“I understand the family friend who passed away in the chapter, Children of God, is former Duke point guard Dick Devenzio. In my family, and in the brotherhood of players I have coached at Duke and on several U.S. Olympic teams, I have always considered every one of us to be children of God. This chapter captures the essence of innocence while at the same time accepting the profoundness of our faith, ‘To embrace goodness with the trust and acceptance of a child’s understanding.'”

“Shared your book with another graduate and I think her Mom hasn’t put it down. Ahead of its time, this was a saving grace for those raising kids during this pandemic of health, political, social and faith challenges!”

The chapter on humor caught my attention, especially the emphasis on it properly coming from a place of love and charity. When this is so, more truth โ€“ including Eternal Truth โ€“ really is said in jest!

“Embracing Goodness: How Life Works is simple wisdom, from Temptation to Marriage, Pride to Humility, Self-Esteem to Pain and Suffering: over 70 representations of the human condition, through the very personal lens of a lifetime of living for our benefit. Each of the 70 topics are very short, very clear, very concise. You will learn and, with repetition, apply these truths/lessons to your own life.

I recorded 50 of these topics, reading in my own voice, and inserting my own comments about application in my life, for me to relisten to over and over again.”

“Highly recommend. Life changing.”

Just when you think life is confusing, complex, and hopeless, you find a book of hope. And not a cookie cutter read, but challenging you on basic beliefs. Life changing events, believing in God, pride, timelessness in heaven, history, politics, etc., it seems like everything is covered. And even the things not covered, seem to be covered indirectly. I canโ€™t wait to share this with friends.

“Wonderful, Simple, And Profound. A Must Read.”

I saw the title and thought, “Really? How life works?” But it is. You can tell this book was not written overnight, and yet, surprises you with its simplicity. Life changing events, believing in God, pride, free will, timelessness in heaven, politics, humor, history, and on and on. It’s hard to find a topic that isn’t covered. And even then, you sense that every topic was covered, even if indirectly. You will be changed after reading this book.

“Saving grace for those raising kids”

I saw the quote from Dr. Susan Davis Wyrick on the back cover, “Saving grace for those raising kids during this pandemic of health, political, social and faith challenges!” and thought, “really?” But it’s true. I highly recommend this book. With 70 chapters, you quickly realize it lives up to its subtitle “How Life Works.” Simple and concise. I plan to leave this book on my coffee table and share it with friends. There is so little clarity in the world today, and finally, a breath of fresh air.
